Project Example
Sedona, AZ
CAPA partnered with Sedona, AZ to develop a suite of heat intervention recommendations. Many US cities have experienced rising temperatures in recent years and CAPA is committed to guiding cities in preparing for a hotter future. Heat Intervention guidebooks incorporate both heat mitigation and adaptation measures and are divided into (1) ‘Community Scale Strategies’ for municipal managers and planners, non-profit or community based groups, academic institutions, commercial property owners, business owners, developers, utility companies, and other non-residential entities, as well as multi-family property owners or landlords, and (2) ‘Household Scale Strategies’ for individuals. Guidebook strategies are further broken into different categories such as built environment, policy, and social support. Suggested strategies are based on best practices and knowledge in the field while specific strategy recommendations are based on local climate and context. Development of the guidebook includes input from City staff across multiple departments and includes heat information on effectiveness, timeline, environmental co-benefits, and special consideration for implementation. Guidebooks include a menu of options to inform subsequent community outreach and municipal action.
