The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is a federal agency tasked with advancing scientific understanding and prediction of changes in climate, weather, oceans, and coasts; and freely sharing the resulting data and information with the public for societal benefit. NOAA's active partnership in urban heat island mapping utilizing CAPA's methodology began in YEAR, when co-principal investigator Vivek Shandas won a NOAA Environmental Literacy Grant to map Richmond, VA. Building on that project's success, NOAA's Climate Program Office and the National Integrated Heat Health Information System (NIHHIS) are continuing to partner with CAPA to support extreme heat mapping campaigns and outreach throughout the country.
